Is the Role Broken?

We’ve normalized overwhelm so much that when a role quietly becomes unsustainable… we blame ourselves for struggling.

That's one of the hardest parts about burnout. It makes you question your competence instead of the conditions.

But there's a difference between a hard job and a broken role.

One challenges you with adequate support. The other drains you.

In this week's episode of The Balanced Badass Podcast®, I break down what it means to be set up to fail and how to tell if that's what's happening in your job.

We talk about:

  • The rise of the "everything job."
  • Why burnout often starts with structure, not mindset.
  • The 5 Cs Driving Burnout and how to spot red flags.
  • How to use the 5 Ps of role design to start a productive conversation.

If this hits close to home, try doing a 5 Ps check-in on your role this week.

Ask yourself:

  • Do I know the purpose of my role, or am I just filling gaps?
  • Can I name the top priorities clearly and confidently?
  • Do I have the power to do what's expected of me?
  • Are the people and support structures I need clearly defined?
  • Is the pace of this job something I can actually sustain?

If you're a "no" on more than two of those, it's probably a design problem, not a performance one.

And you don't have to fix that alone.
