This Changed the Way I Think About Burnout Recovery
Managing your energy is just as important as managing your calendar. We talk a lot about burnout in terms of stress, exhaustion, and long hours (because, yes, those things matter). But there's a piece we don't talk about enough... Your energy. Because burnout is energetic. And if you've ever felt like no amount of sleep, PTO, or self-care Sundays are helping, this might be why. Your energy is drained, and you're not sure how to get it back. This week on The Balanced Badass Podcast™, I had an amazing conversation with Amanda Marek, a former nurse, now Reiki master and burnout recovery guide. We talked about how managing your energy (not just your time) is imperative when it comes to burnout prevention and recovery.
Here's what stuck with me and what I want you to think about: Energy management beats time management. You can have your calendar color-coded and still feel wiped out. Instead of asking, How will I fit this in? ask, Do I have the energy for this today? Some days you're at 90%, some days you're running on 30%. Plan accordingly. Boundaries protect your energy, not just your time.If you feel guilty setting boundaries, I get it. I've been there. But boundaries are how you keep your energy from leaking out all over the damn place. Before saying yes, pause and ask: Does this expand me or shrink me? Rest isn't a reward. It's required. You don’t need to earn rest. You need to build it into your life. Regularly. Without guilt. Whether that’s quiet time, Reiki, or just sitting still for five minutes—rest is non-negotiable if you want to keep going without burning out. And if you're nodding along right now, I promise you'll love this episode. Let’s start managing your energy as intentionally as you manage your calendar. Take care, my friend. Tara |
